About the College
Seth Phoolchand Bagla Mahavidyalaya is a living monument to the spirit of public service, enthusiasm, and philanthropy of the Bagla family of Hathras. It was established on January 14, 1917, in memory of the late Seth Phoolchand Bagla, a renowned industrialist of his time. It was established as a degree college in July 1958. Initially a middle school, it evolved and received accreditation from Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar University (formerly Agra University) for BA and B.Com. In July 1964, M.Com. and M.A. programs in Hindi and Economics began. In July 1969, postgraduate courses in Political Science, Geography, and English, along with other subjects like Education and Defence and Strategic Studies (formerly Military Science), were introduced at the undergraduate level. In the 1980-81 academic year, postgraduate classes were also offered in Sanskrit and Sociology. Since the 1993-94 session, the college has been offering B.Ed. classes under the Faculty of Education. Since the 1996-97 session, the college has also been running B.Sc. classes under a self-financing scheme. Currently, the college is affiliated with Raja Mahendra Pratap Singh State University, Aligarh.
Since the 2012-13 academic year, the college has been offering postgraduate courses in Education and Defense and Strategic Studies under a self-financed scheme. The college's Arts and Commerce faculties offer research (Ph.D.) and postdoctoral programs.
This college is located on the northern edge of the city, in a clean and picturesque environment. Those traveling by bus from Aligarh to Hathras easily get a glimpse of the college's magnificent building.
